In the 1940s, an impressive fortification line of nearly 10,000 bunkers was built along the Pyrenees from Cap de Creus (Catalonia) to the Basque Country. Many were located in Cerdanya County, which was considered a strategic defence point.
St Laurence Fair is held every year on 10 August in the incomparable old quarter of Bellver de Cerdanya. A Pyrenean artisan food market has Pyrenean producers displaying their produce, including honey, bread, cakes, jam, fruit juice, duck and goose conserves, cheeses made from sheep, goat, and cow milk, sausages, aromatic herbs, liqueurs, etc.
