This is one of the largest counties in Catalonia, with Tremp as its capital.

The county is known for its variety of landscapes, ranging from agricultural plains to cliffs, thick forests, and high mountains. In the north, we find Vall Fosca valley, surrounded by over 30 lakes and towering peaks. Further to the south, we have Mont-rebei Canyon and Boumort Mountains.

The county is rich in flora and fauna (featuring scavengers and birds of prey), paleontological sites (showing dinosaur footprints), and mediaeval castles located in villages and along historical borders.
