Espai Cràter
Located in Olot, in the heart of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, Espai Cràter is Catalonia’s reference centre for volcanology. Opened in 2022, the facility is built inside the Puig del Roser volcano, making it a distinctive venue for exploring volcanism in an immersive and accessible way, through audiovisual resources, interactive experiences and installations explaining how the planet functions.
The permanent exhibition provides a structured journey to understand what volcanoes are, how they form and why they erupt. Visitors can examine how volcanic activity has shaped the landscape of La Garrotxa, one of the best-preserved volcanic areas in the Iberian Peninsula.
The experience is enhanced by immersive features such as Cràter 360, enabling virtual travel across remarkable volcanoes worldwide — from submarine systems to extraplanetary landscapes — as well as virtual reality headsets that allow exploration of several volcanic sites in La Garrotxa. An appropriate starting point before visiting the region’s volcanoes and landscapes, including Montsacopa volcano, located a short walk away.
