Museum of the turpentine oil peddlers (trementinaires)
The museum display is housed in two rooms on the ground floor of Tuixent Town Hall. The first room reproduces the kitchen of a “trementinaire”, complete with the household goods and utensils used by the women for their trade.
The second room reproduces a corner of a loft containing drying plants, and mannequins showing how the women dressed when they went peddling from village to village. Photographs on the walls show the process of obtaining turpentine, and display cases contain items used for gathering plants and preparing medicinal ointments.
