Awarded Sports Tourism Destination status in 2006, this town in the province of Lleida lies in the Pyrenees. Its main tourist attraction is the Noguera Pallaresa River. Sort is certified as a whitewater canoeing centre and is not only Spain’s main venue for this sport but also hosts major championships.
In 2003, the Val d’Aran valley was one of the first resorts in Catalonia to be awarded Sports Tourism Destination status. Its privileged location amid the Pyrenees makes it an ideal place for sporting activities up in the high mountains, as recognised by its certification.
