In the lap of Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park and Alt Pirineu Natural Park, this town of just 2,000 inhabitants is home to a one-of-a-kind offering for the practice of canoeing. Experts from around the world don’t hesitate to rank the Noguera Pallaresa as one of the best rivers in Europe for practising whitewater sports, and its 40 navigable kilometres include segments of all levels, from the simplest stretches for children and beginners to the most demanding, grade V out of a scale of VI.

The permanent freestyle kayak stadium in Sort is the only venue of its kind in Europe. No other town contains a permanent facility like this, with a standing wave that reduces the need for maintenance. When the new venue entered into operation, Sort and its area of influence became the flagship of whitewater kayaking in Europe. The new freestyle canoeing stadium in Sort ensures an optimal flow for the practice of this discipline (15-40 m3/s). The construction of these athletic facilities was a necessary condition for the Catalan Tourism Agency to certify the town of Sort as a Sports Tourism Destination.
