The pace of the Natural Parks
Start the route through the Pyrenees near the sea, from the Cap de Creus Natural Park. Here, the rhythm adapts to the movement of the waves which, together with the north wind known as the tramuntana, have created a unique landscape. Heading west, stop off at the Albera Natural Spot and the Headwaters of the Rivers Ter and Freser Natural Park. Go through the Garrotxa Volcanic Area Natural Park which has more than 40 volcanic craters that give it a moonlike appearance. Inland, the nature becomes more spectacular, the mountains get higher and the fauna and flora become more diverse. Visit the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park and that of the Alt Pirineu, the largest one in Catalonia. At the end of the route, you come to the Aigüestortes and Sant Maurici Lake National Park, one of the most emblematic landscapes in Catalonia.
We encourage you to take the route of the natural parks of the Catalan Pyrenees. If you like walking, you can do it on foot, following the GR11 which goes through some of the Catalan Pyrenees parks.
