The old traditional paths, mostly of mediaeval origin, welcome hikers to travel back in time, for example along a quiet, peaceful route evoking the dramatic exile of the Cathars through these lands.

The bridle paths still recall the proud medieval knight and troubadour Guillem de Berguedà, the reapers slipping over the Cadí Mountains during the 17th-century Catalan Revolt, and the hushed deeds of the anti-Franco guerrilla fighter popularly known as “Caracremada” (Burntface). Hikers tap into the pulse of life, the rhythm of nature. The Pyrenees are generous with travellers. Berguedà boasts a good network of marked itineraries, as well as specialised guide services.
